OUR STORY

In 2019, Jermaine started the Spirit & Soul Catering Company, where he combined his passion for food and people by offering events that housed great food and an engaging experience of music, stories, and conversation. But in 2020, he followed his heart with the idea of a social innovation of community that highlights black heritage cooking while also connecting with people and pointing them to Jesus by becoming a cultural intersection of FAITH, FOOD, and FELLOWSHIP.

Jermaine found his calling to cuisine while watching the Food Network. In 2005, after an unexpected, LIFE-ALTERINg health scare, Jermaine began cooking for his wife during his rehab process. What initially started as “just having dinner ready when his wife came home from work”, turned into a newfound passion that served as the springboard to his culinary enlightenment. Early childhood memories of observing his grandmothers prepare delicious Southern food during family gatherings became the basis for his deep-rooted passio. STILL, JERMAINe taught himself the culinary fundamentals and was inspired by watching his favorite chefs, Marcus Samuelsson and The Neely’s. He began exploring his creative culinary expression through the modernization of Southern Cuisine via hip-hop culture and his westside Chicago upbringing by first experimenting on family members, to eventually being beckoned to cook for hundreds at local soup kitchens through his church, which is where his connection to food and community was birthed.

Who we are

We are creating social change and conversion through culture, communicating love, and offering hospitality through service and food. The mission is to infuse hospitality with the message of Jesus’ dinner table theology by intertwining faith, food, and fellowship. This journey is to serve great soul food and emulate Jesus’ ministry by sharing meals and the gospel.

Our motto is “where the experience feeds your SPIRIT, and the food feeds your SOUL”, and we exist to do so by being intentional in finding new ways of doing and being a community with a higher purpose of rethinking the dinner table.
